This unique project combines skills training with cultural heritage preservation by restoring vintage motorcycles that are part of Uganda's automotive history. The work is performed by apprentice mechanics under expert supervision.
Project Elements
- Restoration of 10 classic motorcycles from the 1950s-1980s
- Documentation of the restoration process for educational purposes
- Training of 15 apprentices in specialized restoration techniques
- Public exhibition of completed motorcycles
- Publication of a commemorative book
The project preserves important pieces of Uganda's transportation heritage while providing intensive hands-on training in specialized mechanical skills that are increasingly rare.
Current Progress
Seven motorcycles have been acquired and restoration is underway on four units. The apprentice selection process is complete, and training has begun with documentation being compiled for the educational materials.
